2010年薪資仲裁最受矚目的兩屆賽揚獎得主林瑟坎(Tim Lincecum),到底本季能領1300萬還是800萬年薪,答案應該會於美國時間2月12日召開的仲裁庭揭曉。

薪資仲裁對還沒具備自由球員資格的選手而言,是取得大幅加薪的關鍵,不論是否走進仲裁庭,仲裁結果贏或輸,當年薪水都有機會取得好幾倍的漲幅。像去年薪資僅僅65萬的林瑟坎,若仲裁獲勝年薪漲幅達20倍,就算輸也有12倍多,前幾年的辛苦終於得到回報,但仲裁不僅僅是雙方各提出價碼後一翻兩瞪眼這麼簡單而已,其中可是大有學問。

在集體勞資協議(Collective Bargaining Agreement)裡,清楚地規定哪些條件可以攤開來討論,什麼資訊不適用於仲裁,讓球團和代表球員的經紀公司能夠有所依循。雖然這是指勞資雙方為了薪水走上談判桌時所參考,但不論是否走向仲裁庭,是否曾交換數字,只要薪資達成共識都息息相關。

在林林總總的項目裡,最主要的就是上一季球員對球隊貢獻的質量(包括但不限於球員的整體表現、領導素質與公眾吸引力)、球員生涯貢獻的穩定度、出賽時間長短與過去薪水的紀錄,簡單來說,就是從成績來看。

至於成績要怎樣換算成薪水,自然得與同儕比較。集體勞資協議也記載,球員和其他年資相仿的選手相比,換句話說,像過去王建民面臨仲裁時,只能和滿三年或 super two的球員相比,並不能和年資滿四年甚至具備FA的球員相提並論。去年不具備super two資格的郭泓志,雖然年資有3年又114天,但今年首次參與仲裁,還是得和剛好過super two資格,年資只有2年139天的小熊方登諾(Mike Fontenot)擺在同個層級。

除了年資之外,位置是另一大基準,像提出仲裁數字截止前的幾個小時,和洛杉磯道奇達成協議的郭泓志,2010年年薪95萬,間接代表首次具仲裁資格、沒投滿整年的優秀中繼投手值近百萬的價碼,使得原本已交換數字的聖地牙哥教士和亞當斯(年資3年14天,球團提87.5萬、球員提120萬,今年也曾因傷缺席,出賽37場防禦率0.73的Mike Adams),還沒等到仲裁開庭,隨即就達成年薪一百萬的協議。

至於林瑟坎這樣的超級王牌投手來說,由於史上找不到首次仲裁時已拿下賽揚兩冠的例子可以相比擬,他只能和仲裁歷史紀錄來較量。之前首度仲裁的最高價碼,是費城費城人豪沃德(Ryan Howard)在2008年仲裁獲勝所拿到的1000萬,但豪沃德當時只拿過一座MVP,和林瑟坎相比稍微遜色,沒道理巨人王牌先發投手的薪水低於千萬。

所以,雙方的開價就十分重要,儘管林瑟坎可以因為超凡卓越的成績將價碼喊到1500萬甚至更多,但因此輸掉仲裁的機會就大幅提昇,對他來說錢少拿事小,至少明年薪資的基準也會從800萬開始,而球員工會立場是幫選手爭取可能的最高薪,換句話說也希望林瑟坎達成新紀錄,尤其當最頂尖球員薪水往上攀升時,自然容易帶動其他選手的薪資,當然不希望他仲裁失敗。因此經紀公司在詳細計算、推測巨人的價碼後提出1300萬,使得現在兩邊的中間點是1050萬,增加仲裁獲勝的可能。

對巨人來說,不論輸贏荷包都得大失血,但這都不能怪別人,要怪只能怪他們當初太早把林瑟坎升上來,使得他目前2年148天的資歷,剛好超過低標2年139天一點點,當時若晚個兩週,現在至少可以省六百萬,這想必是仲裁最大的學問吧!
